Dr. Fiona Zwald received her medical degree from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland in Dublin in 1990. After completing residencies in internal medicine and dermatology in Ireland, Dr. Zwald moved to the United States, where she completed a residency in dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine. She then completed a clinical research fellowship in the Dermatology Branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), followed by an approved fellowship training program in Mohs micrographic surgery and advanced reconstructive surgery at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Zwald’s clinical focus is the management of patients who have, or are at risk for, skin cancer, with particular expertise in caring for organ transplant recipients. She specializes in general dermatology, Mohs micrographic surgery, melanoma excision, and routine skin surgery.

Dr. Zwald has served on the Board of Directors of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) and as Chair of the Scientific Committee for both ACMS and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. More recently, she was Associate Professor of Dermatology and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She also held a dual appointment with the Division of Transplantation, where she directed a specialty dermatology clinic dedicated to the care of organ transplant recipients.

Dr. Zwald is the author of more than forty research articles, review papers, and book chapters, and has delivered numerous presentations on skin cancer management and transplant dermatology at both national and international levels.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Zwald is the proud mother of two daughters, Tara and Sara. She and her husband, Jim, enjoy living in Denver, where they embrace an active, outdoor-oriented family lifestyle.
